| 05/02/2006 ST. PETERSBURG, Russia—Ford Motor Co. (Dearborn, MI) has now produced its 100,000th Ford Focus, one of Europe's most popular cars, at its assembly plant in St. Petersburg. The Russian plant, which was launched in 2002, is Ford's newest manufacturing site for the Focus and currently has an annual capacity of 60,000 units. In 2005, overall Ford sales in Russia topped 60,000 vehicles, a 65 percent increase from the previous year. During the first quarter of 2006, Ford sales in Russia reached 16,000 vehicles, an 85 percent increase over the same time period in 2004. In all, the Focus has been the best selling car model among nonRussian brands since 2003. The Focus, which had total European sales of 442, 000 units in 2005, is also produced at assembly plants in Spain, Germany, China, Taiwan, the Philippines and South Africa. More than 5 million Focus cars have been sold worldwide. In 2000 and 2001, the Focus was the best-selling car in the world. Assembly Magazine |
